Adopting an orphaned gem

Hi RubyGems team,

I'm a developer working at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. We recently acquired an app from Northwestern University that depends heavily on a gem called think_feel_do_engine (https://rubygems.org/gems/think_feel_do_engine and previously here at https://github.com/NU-CBITS/think_feel_do_engine). We would like to transfer ownership of the gem to our department at UIC, where the app now resides (https://sunnyside.uic.edu/). Unfortunately the team at Northwestern is no longer responsive to our requests to transfer ownership and we have had to resort to cloning what we can from rubygems: https://rubygems.org/gems/think_feel_do_engine.

We were wondering:

  1. If we could transfer ownership of the gem to ourselves (along with potentially these other gems: https://gist.github.com/briankung/2d01c586044aaddedeefa3cb67396f7e)
  2. Barring that, if we could somehow recover the think_feel_do_engine.gemspec and specs from the published ruby gems.

Any assistance would be appreciated. I understand transferring ownership is a touchy topic, subject to left-pad issues, but we would appreciate any leads on this, as it represents a significant handicap in our ability to develop this research app.

Thank you,
Brian

Did you contact ericcf (Eric Carty-Fickes)? He appears to be active on github so perhaps he would respond to your questions?

Yes, we did email, but they have been unresponsive. I can try to contact him on Twitter as well, however. Let me try!

    Thanks,
    Brian

Unfortunately Eric and the rest of the department has been unresponsive. I understand that ownership issues like these can be touchy subjects, but if there’s anything we can do I would appreciate assistance. Thank you, Evan!

Nevermind, he got back to us! Apparently he has been out of town. The keys to the kingdom haven’t been traded yet, but it looks promising. Thanks for the help.
