Assuming ownership of a gem

Our organization uses RubyGems for creating libraries with our 3rd party integrations. We recently let an employee go and he was the only owner for one of our gems. Is there a way we can assume ownership of the gem without the need for this former employee to add us as owners?

We were able to get this situated by having the former employee grant us ownership.
