Hey All,

Love the rubygems--thanks for all your work!

This came up on the rubyinstaller list [1]. Please consider having the 'gem server' command launch a new browser pointing at e.g., http://localhost:8808 (or whatever URL will pull up the main installed gems doc index page).

My preference would be for that to be the default behavior & maybe add an argument to optionally turn the behavior off.

Thanks for considering this!

Is there a reliable cross-platform way of opening a browser window?

Not entirely I don't think, but Gorden Thiesfeld & Luis Lavena have worked out a 95% solution I think--please see the further messages in the rubyinstaller thread lined in my original post.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

This has been merged to master codebase and will be cherry-picked for 1.4 release.

Gordon provided the basic ground for this and we believe is valid and useful.

As for RubyInstaller, once RubyGems 1.4 is out, the newer installers can take advantage of it.

Closing this out as resolved issue.

    Thank you for your suggestion.
