Lavena have worked out a 95% solution I think--please see the
further messages in the rubyinstaller thread lined in my original
post.</p>

<p>This has been merged to master codebase and will be
cherry-picked for 1.4 release.</p>
<p>Gordon provided the basic ground for this and we believe is
valid and useful.</p>
<p>As for RubyInstaller, once RubyGems 1.4 is out, the newer
installers can take advantage of it.</p>
<p>Closing this out as resolved issue.</p>
