for providing the wonderful rubygems.org. :-)

I registered to rubygem.org before a few weeks, and now I
noticed that my e-mail address is not hidden on my profile page.
(Even I am not logged in.)

I thought that my e-mail address will not be public at the
registration time.

I suggests either of these:

Noting "Your e-mail address will be public" on the Sign-up
form.

Adding "Keep my e-mail address private" checkbox to Sign-up
& profile edit form.

And also, I suggest encrypting e-mail address on profile page
with JavaScript for protection from SPAM robots.

Thanks.

typing in a password, I can change my email address, and get
LOCKED OUT OF MY ACCOUNT if I set it to something bogus,
such as foo@example.com?

I was pissed off you guys were publicly displaying my email
address, so I changed it to foo@example.com and hit update.
Without asking me or anything else, I got locked out of my account
and currently have absolutely NO way of getting my account
back.

Brilliant policy, guys. Really, really brilliant.

While you're at it...tag:help.rubygems.org,2010-01-19:Comment/40161912010-12-18T16:06:18Z2010-12-18T16:06:18Zconsideration of e-mail address privacy

I lost this one in the mix, if you have a real support issue
please open up a new one and we'll handle it. This is an open
source service run by volunteers, if you have problems you can help
fix them...that's the whole point :)

Nick Quaranto
