I would like to publish a gem using the name "regentanz", but there already exists one with that name. The gem seems to have been abandoned since 2013.

I have attempted to contact the owner of the gem on Twitter, but have not received any response, neither positive or negative (see https://twitter.com/iconara/status/956902028743270401).

Is there any process for requesting declaring the existing gem abandoned and allowing me to use the name?

The gem I would like to publish can be found at https://github.com/burtcorp/regentanz

This can be frustrating, especially in the case of popular or common names, but we would rather err on the side of protecting creators than accidentally removing someone’s work.

I do appreciate that you've tried to reach out to them, and I see that they're still actively posting and developing on GH, so hopefully you can connect with them and this isn't a case where the developer has passed away or dropped out of tech. I've cc'd the owner of the gem in question, and hopefully the two of you can connect and get a definitive answer from them.

kerrizor
