I can only seem to resolve bb-m.rubygems.org but not
rubygems.global.ssl.fastly.net. I tried setting bb-m as a gem
source but no
luck. I'm starting to wonder if this might be an issue on my side.
I'm
really not sure.

Can you go to debug.fastly.com and paste the text block
here?

Eric Hodeltag:help.rubygems.org,2010-01-19:Comment/361487232015-02-26T23:40:29Z2015-02-26T23:40:29ZUnknownHostError when installing rails

I can not resolve debug.fastly.com

This is really bizzar!

Let me try a few things and I'll get back to you ASAP.

I tried changing to a public dns server and that worked, though
it was really slow.

I am working out of a virtual machine (vagrant), and my host
machine was able to resolve debug.fastly.com, so my final solution
was adding to the vagrant file, which I believe just specifies to
use the same dns settings as my host machine

config.vm.provider "virtualbox" do |v|

v.customize ["modifyvm", :id, "--natdnshostresolver1", "on"]

end

Thanks for the help and pointing me towards it being a dns
issue!
