SQLite3 error compiling

I have downloaded the sqlite gems and their dependencies. I run gem install -l sqlite3 and:

Building native extensions. This could take a while...
ERROR: Error installing sqlite3:

    ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

Anyone know?

   You'll need to ask the sqlite3 developers for support on installing the sqlite3 gem.
